Reasons for nomination “Balance Wii Board” opened up a new arena by integrating into the world of pleasure a sensor device modeled on the common bathroom scales. It is not just an ordinary scale, but has multiple built-in sensors which enable it to detect balance. The application of the device has opened up new possibilities for third-party games as well as for “Wii Fit.”

Reasons for nomination Rockstar Games successfully created a new trend in game design for highly flexible gameplay by integrating the elements and technologies of various genres of games within a large-scale 3D Open World. It also exhibited the importance of a development team in revolutionizing game designs.

“Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day!” Development Team (Nintendo Co., Ltd.)

Reasons for nomination By taking full advantage of the DS user interface, and based on the conventional concept of “brain training,” by adding a new “brain age” score, the team developed a totally new game design. The new invention contains a value that everyone can share, and successfully appealed to a group of customers who have not enjoyed games in the past, contributing to expanding the range of game users.

Reasons for nomination The high-level game design brings together the elements of: a good balance of parameters such as weapons and gadgets; operational training; and the joy of communicating with friends in the one place, including calling out to each other to develop strategies during multiplayer gameplay and receiving advice from other players.

Reasons for nomination It materializes the "joy of playing" by actively using the physical simulation while offering the feature for users to generate stages by using the physical simulator, and the "UGC" feature, which shares through the network the stages generated by users. Thus, it successfully offers diversified "joy of playing."
